Using Apple Pencil and Sketches to draw sunset at Nes a/d Amstel

This time I wanted to draw a landscape. It is different to the smaller subjects I drew earlier in the level of detail (landscapes are big, while a watch for instance is tiny). It proved to be challenging to strike the right balance between detail and abstraction. But I like the result. This sunset is based on a photo I took while riding my bike home along the river Amstel (see photo near the bottom of this page).

Drawing the reflection of the horizon in the water

Creating the sky using digital water paint - note the little guide I added to help me creating the color gradient

In a seperate layer I drew the pink clouds

The pink clouds with the sky now visible

I created the water in a similar fashion as the sky

The final result, notice added details like small waves in the water
